As a democratic country, India is built on the foundations of the election. Our Parliament and Legislatures are of the people, by the people, and for the people. Democracy can’t be taken for granted because it has given people various powerful rights and one of them is- Right to Vote. The right to vote is one of our most important freedoms as individuals. Voting is a basic process that helps to form a country’s government. The National Voter’s Day is celebrated across the India on 25th January. Unbelievable but true! On this day The entire nation reverberates with the festivities of democracy as crore of Indians celebrate their right to vote! The purpose of this day is to increase the enrolment of voters, especially young voters. The day is also utilized to spread awareness regarding the electoral process and practices. Voting in India is a constitutional right if the citizen is over 18 years of age. Voting rights enables people to question the government about issues and clarifications. It also provides a sense of freedom to express an opinion in major decision making for the benefit of the country in a democratic nation. Participation in the democratic and electoral process is integral to the successful running of any democracy and the very basis of wholesome democratic elections. A voter is the bedrock of the institution of democracy.
Voting makes a difference. The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; while in a dictatorship you don’t have to waste your time voting. Like every vote counts, yours too. If you want to make a change, you should cast your vote. Make your voice heard and express your opinion through your vote on the issues you are concerned about. Everyone must honor the right of voting given by the constitution of India. The youngsters are well excited to exercise their right to vote as soon as they turn 18. The feeling after having cast a vote infuses a sense of pride for being a responsible citizen. Everyone should vote because everyone has an opinion. Arguably, several people over the legal age of voting in the country are not even aware of their voting rights, impeded by lack of education. A growing number of citizens have little trust in formal political processes, political institutions, and leaders, perhaps because they feel they are not representative of their interests. A weak understanding of democratic principles and electoral processes makes it more difficult for youth to perceive elections as routes to express their grievances, demand change, and hold governments accountable. Without the right political education, young people don’t feel to engage in politics. Every university or school should encourage students to exercise their invaluable vote because young learners have the power to make a significant change in shaping the country through elections. Every institution should encourage students to vote. Universities and schools can also coordinate awareness-raising activities and encourage students to register and vote. All information regarding election should be available on different social media platforms so that no one should lack political education. Everyone should be aware of different malpractices done during elections. No members of the party are allowed to use money power or muscle power to force the voters to cast their vote in favor of him/her. Hence, people are able to exercise their will in political leadership. An election is an excellent opportunity for people to express their displeasure.
